April 26, 2010, Medicine Hat Alberta … For the first time in its history, the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta took home four of six marketing awards presented for excellence in business attraction, retention, expansion and marketing at the Annual Minister’s Dinner & Awards Banquet held in Kananaskis Alberta, on Thursday, April 22. Judges from the Economic Developers of Alberta honored the Southeast Alberta Alliance, for distinction in promotional literature, marketing tools and effective communications. Walking away with awards in website, creative innovations, advertising and branding-destination marketing, the Southeast Alberta Alliance was represented as a savvy, smart and stable region to do business.
“It was a phenomenal evening; accepting these awards, and being recognized for excellence in economic development, both as an organization and as a region, from 300 of our peers,” said Caroline Grover, executive director for the EDA. “Being successful in categories that include much larger centers reiterates that we are effectively communicating our brand and the five communities we represent. This was a very special honor.”
In 2009 the EDA created an unmanned vehicle system (UVS) advertising campaign, designed by KICK Creative. The ad was published in the September/October 2009 Canadian Defence Review magazine; supported by editorial content ,with the guidance of the EDA team, it highlighted, Southeast Alberta as home to Canada’s unmanned vehicle systems industry. “We’re very proud of the changes that we’ve made to our new website. We believe that we have provided the relevant material that our stakeholders need in a way that has impact and keeps them coming back, “says Caroline Grover. We have also been working with a communications and marketing plan that is strategic and fits with our overall philosophy of being savvy and smart.”
Among the awards the EDA was recognized in the category of creative innovations; a promotional video, produced by Medicine Hat business, Stream Media that focused on the UVS industry. Presented on a USB Flash Drive with the EDA branding, this promotional tool diversified the industry and proved impactful. Recognizing the benefit that comes with effective collaboration the EDA acknowledges the contribution and success attained from the creative input and innovational design provided by these local companies.
