New Technologies Drive Industry Trends

June 21, 2010, Medicine Hat Alberta… Showcasing new and to-be launched products while providing a platform for energy economists to forecast the future of fuel,  energy ministers and professionals joined at the 2010 Global Petroleum Show in Calgary, Alberta on June 10th to view new technologies including: zero- soil systems, ultrasonic gas leak detection, 3D mapping and geospatial solutions; innovation that’s on the course of impacting global supply and demand, enhancing recovery and environmental protection as well as shifting industry trends,  businesses are encouraged to remain up to date on a stable industry that continues to grow and expand.   

“The new tools for the energy sector are capable of evolving industry and expanding the services offered while increasing productivity,” said Pete Loignon, innovation facilitator for the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta (EDA). “Among the state of the art equipment was 3D technology that scanned accurately and reproduced a part very quickly; it was about increasing measurement accuracy, creating an easier and faster way to size, and facilitating a higher volume. It’s these types of technology that could be applied to a variety of sectors, oil & gas being one of them."

Looking forward, international energy leaders from countries like India and Peru shared their visions on the current economic climate and the future state of the energy sector. Peter Tertzakian, ARC Financial’s chief energy economist, forecasted that natural gas would eventually take global presentence as the fuel of the future.

“Looking long term, oil & gas will change, allowing new players to emerge. It’s important that businesses in southeast Alberta utilize the resources that are provided to remain aware of the new technologies and recent trends,” said Tracy Heebner, business development officer for the EDA.
