Project Scope
Economic growth and diversification will be assisted through the employment of a graduate of a business program. This project will specifically;
- Provide training, experience and mentorship
- Assist regional businesses by provision of timely information, coordination of projects and seminars and ultimately will increase investment capital and employment opportunities in innovative companies
- Provide extensive network opportunities to the participant to learn, enhance the experience and potentially find permanent employment
The candidate will:
- Attend meetings and work with the Business Development Team of the EDA
- Assist EDA staff and committees with projects that arise from the committee or reports
- Develop events related to industry sectors; planning, attain speakers, market, organize and implement information seminars pertaining to topical issues
- Work in rural and urban environments with diverse companies
- Participate in events relating to oil, gas, wind and solar, unmanned vehicle systems, manufacturing, and sometimes agriculture
- Assist EDA staff in work related to building the capacity of rural Albertans to facilitate innovation
The experiences will include;
- Working with skilled community development staff
- One year work experience with a high profile regional economic development agency
- Knowledge of non-profit society structures; boards of directors, volunteer committees
- Conducting effective meetings; development of agendas, minutes, public speaking, report preparation
- Attending town and county council meetings; learning how local governments work and the types of issues of importance to each sub-region
- Attending and creating numerous events relating to diverse industry sectors
- Introduction to hundreds of energy, manufacturing and technology related companies; learn first hand about challenges and opportunities
- Office management procedures; telephone, inquiries, organizing events, working with diverse staff and volunteers, finance entry, and database management
- Introductions to government programs and support services available to businesses
