Light it Right- Commercial Incentive Rewards Efficiency

Published on August 17, 2010

On August 9th, the Province of Alberta released media information pertaining to a new commercial lighting program; it is effective immediately and will continue until December 31st, 2011 or until the $4 million funding allocation is fully subscribed.

The sectors that are eligible to apply include:  restaurants, multi-use residential buildings, office spaces, retail locations, and warehouses.  Depending on the type of building, the maximum rebate allowed per company can range from $37,500 to $375,000.

Specifically, the incentives include changeovers to lamps with external ballasts, built-in ballasts, new luminaries, lamps with a ballast retrofit, and occupancy sensors.  Types of lamps includes T5s, T8s, compact fluorescents, LEDs, cold cathode, induction, high pressure sodium, and metal halide models.  Wattages for the standard upgrades can range from 14 to a maximum of 51 watts.  The dollar amount incentives per lamp or fixture can range from $1 to $100 per unit.

For more detailed information, see the attached file, contact Climate Change Central via their toll-free number 1-888-537-7202, or go to their incentive website at www.LightitRight.ca.

As stated by Alberta Environment Minister Rob Renner, the utility consumption for lighting can account for 1/2 of the overall commercial electrical bill so get HAT Smart and take advantage of the provincial incentive to substantially save on your utility bills.
