October 12, 2010, Medicine Hat Alberta…Out of 180 submissions for the 2010 Marketing Canada Awards, the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta (EDA) took first place for the category of innovational excellence in promotions items, at the Economic Developers Association of Canada’s (EDAC) Annual Professional Development Conference in Quebec City, QC, on September 21. Judges from EDAC honored the EDA for its leading-edge design of the unmanned vehicle systems (UVS) micro web-site and flashcard, a savvy sector thriving in southeast Alberta.
“It was a proud moment to receive the recognition at this very competitive Canadian level,” said Caroline Grover, executive director for the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta. “We are fortunate to have the exceptional talents of Stream Media located in Medicine Hat who can create award winning images for local companies. This also provided an opportunity for us to promote our region to hundreds of delegates from coast to coast.”
Created in 2009, the EDA implemented a marketing strategy to promote the UVS industry in southeast Alberta; a promotional item produced by Stream Media, the video highlights industry leaders such as: Canadian Centre for Unmanned Vehicle Systems (CCUVS), Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) and Meggitt Training System Canada, and is presented on a USB Flash Drive with the EDA branding.
“The microsite and flashcard were marketing tactics utilized to promote the UVS sector in southeast Alberta, since then we’ve accomplished the first province-wide initiative to collaboratively market this industry in Alberta- internationally,” said Grover. “The video captures commercial and defence applications, a highly skilled workforce in labs and in the field, along with introductions to companies ranging from manufacturing to testing; it’s an innovative promotional tool that has proven successful and is being acknowledged by our peers.”
This is the fifth award the EDA has received this year for marketing excellence; helping to place southeast Alberta at the forefront of investment attraction.
