Local Market Data Provides Timely Analysis of Economic Trends

November 23, 2010, Medicine Hat Alberta…Available online, the Economic and Labour Market Analysis report is focused on assisting companies expand and invest by providing an overall snapshot of localized demographic, economic and labour market information.

“Finding accurate, reliable statistics and data is critical to making good business decisions. We are always looking for more information to meet the needs of our municipal government operations and the needs of investors, developers and industry leaders,” said Keith Crush, business development officer for the City of Medicine Hat. “The Economic & Labour Market Analysis is a great new resource that is filling the gap in statistics and also providing timely analysis of economic trends affecting our community.”

The publications include data and analysis of: Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey (LFS), census demographics, municipal statistics and industry trends on demand for workers, skills and qualifications.

“Individuals or businesses that are going to make investments generally do research into the conditions and the sector they are considering. This could apply to buying a house, stock or expanding your company,” said Caroline Grover, executive director for the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta. “The Economic and Labour Market Analysis provides a research base for the Medicine Hat area. This is a snapshot of what industry is seeing, their plans on expansion, economic risks and opportunities. Readers can also expect expert commentaries on future trends, as well as a quarterly analysis for ATB’s chief economist, Todd Hirsch.”

This project was a result of surveys done with business and communities which indicated a need from employers and investors to acquire information prior to making operational changes. This project was funded by the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta, Alberta’s Employment and Immigration office, City of Medicine Hat, Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce and the Community Foundation of Medicine Hat & Southeastern Alberta.
