Rural Entrepreneurship on Simmer in Medicine Hat
By Courtney Rupertus
Entrepreneurship is on simmer in a new project developed at Medicine Hat College. The College’s Entrepreneur Development Centre (EDC) was developed to encourage a culture of entrepreneurship within the college as well as to inject ideas into the business community.
EDC Manager Jon Sookocheff and Dean of Business Jacqueline Penne agree that the heart of the program is mentorship. They began by creating an advisory board made up of professionals in the community who assisted with program development, marketing, gaining community support and driving connections. With the help of the board, they had no trouble finding mentors as soon as they were set up. “The mentors learn as much from the students as the students do from them,” said Jon.The Centre also develops new resources for young entrepreneurs, makes existing resources more accessible, and encourages students to contribute to the community in an entrepreneurial capacity.Read full story by the ARD Rural Connector
