Directory gets businesses past the gatekeeper and into the oil sands

Published on June 30, 2011

June 28, 2011, Medicine Hat, Alberta…The Economic Development Alliance (EDA) of Southeast Alberta’s award winning Southeast Alberta Oil & Gas Goods and Services Directory is back and online. Aiding in the development and investment attraction of the energy industry, the directory categorizes businesses by sub sector to streamline the process for companies seeking support, as well as to create awareness for investors looking for a competitive marketplace.

The directory includes a number of new features including the company’s main contact information as well as a summary of services offered by businesses in areas such as chemical products and manufacturing, communications, electrical contractors as well as health and safety.

Tracy Heebner, Deputy Director for the EDA explains that the database is also of use to career services able to offer highly skilled workers, and companies associated to the oil sand developments in Northern Alberta. The Canadian Energy Research Institute alone estimated that in response to the world’s growing energy demand, an excess of $2 trillion in investments, reinvestments and revenues would come from new oil sand projects by 2035, increasing the importance for industry to have access to this information.

“Despite the recent recession, southeast Alberta companies are survivors - many are still actively involved in this sector. We’ve seen a lot of new partnerships form from the mergers of old businesses, as well as sub-sectors diversify into the industry to create growth, and we thought it was important to promote what is here,” said Heebner.

The directory is a tool for the public to use and is available online. The EDA encourages organizations to download the electronic version at www.edalliance.ca and distribute it to their database. To sign your company up, edit an existing contact or refer a business, email info@edalliance.ca or call (403) 488-7015. There is no cost associated to having your company featured on the directory, funding is provided by the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta.
