Published on July 29, 2011

Take a tour of rural Alberta and experience the flavors and activities along Highway 3. Country Cruzin’ will take place on August 11, 2011 from 1-8 pm.  Among the destinations, County Fresh Greenhouse where the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta along with the Red Hat Co-operative will be on-site to provide information on the different produce that is available in our area as well as why southeast Alberta provides ideal growing conditions for agriculture businesses.

Randy Lehr, Chair for the EDA Agriculture Committee explained how this event supported the opportunity presented in the growing trend for eating local, buying local and ag tourism; "these areas are all growing, North American wide, and we certainly have top quality food products in southeast Alberta that people can take advantage of as consumers."

Lehr continued to explain that the region has a lot to offer in terms of ag tourism; he believes this event will help people to become more aware and see where they see potential for themselves to become part of the growing agriculture sector.

Other activities throughout the day include such things as: a nature walk through the gardens at TLC Farms; viewing over 40 combination planters at the Bow Island Greenhouses and enjoying the food and orchid experience at Erna’s Berry Farm and Country Café & Store.

Participants of Country Cruzin’ will also have an opportunity to eat a locally grown, homemade supper served at the Whitla Community Hall from 4:30- 7:30pm. Cost is $10 per adult and $6 for 6 years and under, there will also be musical entertainment. The Tour guide pamphlet is available at the Bow Island Town Office, Bow Island Tourist Booth and will be available on the EDA website at a later date. If you have any questions contact Laurie Haynes at 403-502-4701 or Terrie Matz at 403-545-2080. Registration is not required and activities will run during the scheduled times. This event is featured by: the Bow Island Ag Society and the EDA Agriculture Committee.

The EDA encourages individuals to take this as an opportunity to learn more about what’s available in our region, to support the companies that are doing business in the area as well as to stop by County Fresh and let the team tell you about agriculture opportunities in southeast Alberta.
