Attending to promote Training the Next Generation 2 (TTNG2) and to announce the winner of the eat local Name the Campaign, the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta’s (EDA) Agriculture Committee is encouraging the public to visit the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede’s Cowboy Christmas Tradeshow from December 16-17, 2011. The EDA will be drawing for a gift basket full of local food as well as providing information and selling tickets for TTNG2, an event which helps producers plan for transferring ownership of their farm business.
“Studies show that farm families who talk are 21% more profitable, “said Tracy Heebner, associate director for the EDA. Heebner was grateful for the opportunity to bring family farm business coach and succession expert, Elaine Froese to this region. “We felt she was a speaker our producers could relate to, as she is a farmer herself and understands the industry’s culture.”
TTNG2 features Froese, who brings over twenty-two years of experience working with agriculture families and groups, such as Farm Credit Canada and the Canadian Hereford Association. Froese will be speaking on topics such as “Who Gets the Farm… and When?” and “Discuss the Undiscussabull™”, with advice to encourage producers and their families (or business successors) to start the planning process.
Training the Next Generation 2 will be held on February 16, 2012 in the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede’s Grandstand Banquet room. Registration will be accepted at the EDA’s booth starting this Friday. Early registrants will receive a free e-copy of Froese’s book, “Do the Tough Things Right”.
The Cowboy Christmas Tradeshow, which runs in conjunction with the fifteenth annual Beef Pen Show, provides a perfect opportunity for the EDA to interact with and provide support to the local agriculture community.
“The EDA’s Agriculture Committee is quite active in working for Southeast Alberta’s agriculture industry,” said Heebner. “By attending the Cowboy Christmas Tradeshow, we can share our work with producers in the region.”
To find out more information about the Beef Pen Show and Cowboy Christmas Tradeshow, the EDA encourages you to visit the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede’s website.
Funding from the EDA, Friends of EDA Agriculture (MNP, C & H Irrigation, TD Bank Group, Rick Porter Group of Companies, Servus Credit Union, Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede, Farm Credit Canada and Medicine Hat New Holland) and the Rural Community Adaptation Grant Program (RCAP) a Government of Alberta initiative, have made these projects possible.
